⚠️The Golden Triangle of Flamenco

⚠️The Golden Triangle of Flamenco

January 16, 2026 Posted by rina@rinaorellana.com Uncategorized No Comments

When one mentions the “Golden Triangle of Flamenco,” it refers to where most people believe the cante jondo (deep song of flamenco) originated. The flamenco triangle is between the cities of Cádiz, Jerez de la Frontera and Triana in Sevilla.

But there is another trio in flamenco- the basic elements that make up flamenco- cante (song), toque (guitar) and baile (dance).

However, I want to propose another trio, triangle, trinity (and any other grouping of 3’s). And these are what all dancers need to be able to dance flamenco with certainty and passion and confidence.

Of course, you need technique like a strong core, articulate feet, fluid arms and solid turns. But what comes before that are COMPAS (rhythm), CORAJE (courage) and CORAZON (heart).

🎶 COMPAS

Of course the compás is the rhythm, the beat. But in this pillar, Compás is also the mental side of flamenco — the mind, the map, the language. We ground ourselves in the compás until it wraps around us and lives in our bones. This isn’t just counting; it’s knowing where we are and feeling IN the dance. We also SPEAK flamenco by the learning the structure of a dance, the parts and the flow — like the parts of a sentence or a roadmap. We get to know the different palos (rhythmical styles) and start to recognize their characteristics.

🔥 CORAJE

Coraje is the physical side — the body, the work, the doing. This is where technique is built through discipline, repetition, and KISS Flamenco: keep it strong and simple. We do the drills, refine the basics, and trust that progress comes from showing up consistently, not trying to be impressive. Coraje also means cultivating the courage to stand up, be seen, and take up space. Just like learning a language or a musical instrument, we put in the work so the body can develop that flamenco look — clear, grounded, and explosive.

❤️ CORAZON

Corazón is the soul — the feeling, the emotion. This is where expression lives. When the compás is in your body and the technique is there to support you, you have the freedom to express, to explode, to communicate something real. We pay attention to the aire of the palo and dig into its emotional quality. We also ask: how do I want to feel when I dance — strong, expressive, explosive, deep, emotional? We tap into that feeling first… and then we DANCE.

So, we start with those three elements AND we learn how to DANCE, DANCE, DANCE with our entire BEING because we know that flamenco isn’t just learning a bunch of steps! It’s a calling that’s in our soul.
