ONLINE FLAMENCO LESSONS
It’s not enough to be able to dance flamenco. A true bailaora will be able to SPEAK flamenco- that’s understanding the structure and vocabulary of flamenco. Any one of these Flamenco Theory Lectures will deepen your knowledge:
Elements of Flamenco– (Flamenco Theory 101) Learn a broad overview of Flamenco, the Dancer, and the Palos (Rhythms).
Structure of Flamenco– (Flamenco Theory 102) Discover the structure of all flamenco dances so you can easily learn a choreography, understand what you’re watching and generally “speak” flamenco.
How to Choreograph Flamenco.– (Flamenco Theory 103) Learn what you need to know to make the process smooth!! And it’s all about understanding the STRUCTURE!!!
FLAMENCO SHOES
NO SURPRISE! Dancers ALWAYS want a new pair of shoes. They’re not cheap, but they really would be so appreciated and loved! Now, does she already have a few pairs? Then go BOLD with something fun like leopard print or bright pink leather! But everyone needs a good pair of black leather flamenco shoes that can go the distance and we always seem to need to replace an old beloved pair. Flamenco West always has a lot of great stock on hand of Senovilla shoes to choose from.
FLECOS (FRINGE)
Flecos are my security blanket when I perform. I seem to always wear them!! They add color, texture and add some fun movement while you dance. I have some in various colors, but starting with black or red is always a good start! Lunares from Brazil has a great selection of plain fringe and crocheted fringe.
PRACTICE FLOOR
When you practice at home, it is ESSENTIAL that you have some sort of floor to practice on or else you’ll tear apart your own floors! You can make one yourself by purchasing wood and covering it with a coat of polyurethane. Ideally it’s on a raised wooden floor, but some people can’t make all that noise – or prefer not to hear it themselves! That’s where this dance practice pad comes in. It provides a surface to dance on that will protect your floors and not make so much noise.
BLACK SKIRT
Just like the little black dress, every dancer needs the little black skirt- although it actually should be long. Having one is great for practice as well as dressing it up with some flecos and a lace top for an instant performance outfit. This one is from Amazon and has lots of different colors.
MASSAGE TOOLS
These spiky balls do wonders for caring and preventing all the aches and pains that dancers go through. Roll them under your feet, lie on them under your back or your glutes. I have a pair of them in my dance bag and they make my feet feel AMAZING after class!
